We Matter: Art for People with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities are often not considered in the creation and display of art. While the  visual arts have made strides on how to serve people with other more “visible” disabilities, there is little research and practice on making art and art activities welcoming for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

"[M]uch of the art in the area that is more contemporary tends to leave out disabled people in design as well as anyone who doesn't have education, as there is no guidance on how to engage with many pieces of art."

Ross Edelstein brings his background in museum education and research training to this session. With expertise on the subject and and his perspective as a person with autism, Edelstein will share evidence-based practice from the literature, share tips and tricks for better incorporating people with intellectual and developmental disabilities into the narrative of creating and displaying art, and help you develop institutional buy-in on your programming.

This session will be auto-captioned and interactive via Zoom.
